Intro
Suh: Hello and welcome to the second official METAPIXEL Discord AMA. I’m Suh the METAPIXEL Community Manager and I will be joined by our Business Director Joseph for this AMA.
With the upcoming first community test of Gran Saga Unlimited, we thought it was the perfect time to hold another AMA. We’ll be running this AMA in a similar format to the previous event with an FAQ section to address some of the most commonly asked basic questions, then the AMA section with selected questions from the community and then finally we’ll be closing with a free Q&A session where listeners can ask questions to Joseph directly.
We will also be revealing the password for the Crew3 Quest for AMA Attendance at the end, also don’t forget we are also running several Crew3 events such as the Proof of Player event in our Discord, the Daily bonus and more upcoming events to boost your chances of getting selected as a tester.
FAQ
Q: What if I don’t own an OAT?
A: Unfortunately , the 500 community tester spots are reserved for people who participated in our earlier OAT claiming event. However, we will be holding different events during the testing period where users can participate and receive similar NFTs, and they might come in handy in the future too.
We will also be holding multiple testing phases after the first test in March, so don’t get too down if you miss out this time, there will be a greater number of testing spots available in those future tests too so people will have a lot of opportunity to test the game.
Q: Why only OAT owners?
A: Our intention with the OAT was to identify early community members and supporters and we wanted to link that with the very first opportunity for our community to try GSU.
Q: Can I claim the OAT now?
A: No, unfortunately the event has expired and it is not possible to get the first GSU OAT.
Q: What is the process of tester selection?
A: A full rundown of the process can be found on the testing information page at metapixel.io, but I will summarize it for our listeners:
1. Users are required to have a GSU OAT from our earlier Galxe campaign — users should also be participating in METAPIXEL’s crew3 Quest and XP system
2. On March 13th we will be taking a snapshot of the METAPIXEL crew3 Leaderboard
3. Users will then be required to submit an entry to become a tester between March 13th and March 16th. this is also when you will verify your GSU OAT ownership on our website
4. Winners announced March 17th- The entries with the top 100 highest Crew3 rankings will automatically qualify. The rest of the 500 total will be drawn with greater chances for higher Crew3 XP/ranking. We will be using crew3’s tiebreaker system, in which users who have the same amount of XP are ordered by time of attainment, so whoever reaches the XP amount first will be ranked higher.
5. March 24th testing begins — there will also be events for non-testers to participate in where they can claim NFTs and get involved
Q: I want to be a tester but I have low crew3 XP!
A: To re-state for people, only the Top 100 Crew3 XP of entrants automatically qualify and everyone else who submits an entry will have a chance— but this excludes mods, METAPIXEL staff and anybody who does not submit a valid entry, so it won’t be a direct copy of the Top 100 on the Leaderboard.
The rest, excluding our moderators, of the 500 will be drawn from the remaining entries with higher chances for higher Crew3 XP, so while having higher Crew3 XP will put you at an advantage there is still some opportunity for people with lower XP, but we would advise people to gain as much XP as possible to maximize their chances in general.
We have also prepared some pre-testing events where you can gain up to 500 XP if you complete all of them with diligence. For example, Proof of Player has already started, and attending this AMA will also get your more XP if you listen and obtain the password.
Q: What content is included in the test version of the game?
A: Since this is the early development version, there will be some changes / improvements made during our development progress until launch.
So, on the first test of GSU, players may be experiencing these two, which is basic core GSU gameplay (exploration, co-op play and in-game trading) and an early preview of our platform (membership and launcher functions). So during the gameplay, you may be able to experience some game features — such as community areas, and some set of dungeon play with parties, basic systems, and in-game events as well. Plus, you will be able to experience 6 different archetype of GSU, experiencing their basic skill sets too.
Q: What languages are available for this test?
A: The first test build will only be in English, we will be observing and working on different languages for the official release of the game.
Q: Will the testers be rewarded?
A: There will be events for both testers and non-testers, where they can participate and claim POAP style NFTs. Specifically regarding GSU testers, there will be also be some form of reward related to GSU and their status as one of the early pioneers of the game, but it will not affect game balance later. Please also keep in mind that these community tests are meant to be self-contained, which means game data won’t transfer beyond the testing period.System requirements? You can find the full details of system requirements on metapixel.io
We are aware that the PC system requirements might not be accessible due to hardware or operating system limitations, and we will notify players if any changes happen in that regard. With GSU, it was necessary to carry out our full vision for the scale of the game. We are also planning to develop other types of games such as Pixelcraft that can be accessed by more people who want to play METAPIXEL’s games.
Q: If a regulatory problem is encountered, how will you deal with it?
A: Some of you were curious about how regulations might restrict certain countries from accessing the game. We’re still finalizing the guidance we can give to players about this and we are carefully observing the regulatory landscape regarding both the test and in a wider sense.
In general, GSU’s 1st Community Test and game services will not be available to IP addresses located in countries where blockchain services are prohibited or where METAPIXEL has not yet been granted the required content rating classification.
The exact list of restricted countries will be confirmed via the METAPIXEL Medium closer to testing commencement. If things change in the future, METAPIXEL will respond accordingly and inform the community.
Selected AMA questions
Ceddy#5797 asked “Have you planned in game rewards for testers or incentives? If yes, are rewards going to be laddered in importance based in your testing batch? Are you planning to have a campaign to on-board hardcore gamers that are not necessarily crypto native (such as using oat, crew3, etc)?”
Joseph: I will cover the second part of the question first. To bring more hardcore, and web2-based MMORPG gamers, we are finding some ways to set proper campaigns and also thinking of using other storefronts as well. As our goal is to bring the actual masses to web3, using our titles like GSU, we will be finding some ways to make these gamers interested in our game — no matter what this game is using blockchain tech or not.
And for the testers, we are planning to share some perks, or elements of honor/status for the test participants who actually put their best effort during our test period. Since we need to share some gratitude to the testers, there will be some game-related achievements shared to our testers upon launch. But these will not be actually be made using ladder / ranks during the test. And also, we are planning some events for the remaining communities as well to share some more advantages for being active and supportive on our web3 journey.
MrBraooni#4059 asked “Hello dears! Everyone would like to know what are our goals for the first GSU test? Connection? Loading? After all, you wrote that WEB3 will not be used in this test? What do we need to pay special attention and focus on in order to provide you with feedback later? Thank you.”
Joseph: For players, we want to share some of the in-game aspects and actual gameplay of GSU with this 1st community test. Since we are focusing more on bringing fun games, we hope our testers to focus on the actual gameplay, co-op with others and so on.
As mentioned earlier, what testers will be able to experience will be pretty much like core GSU gameplay (exploration, co-op play and in-game trading) and an early preview of our platform (membership and launcher functions). So regular insight and feedbacks for the gameplay will be appreciated. Since we are using the single region (which is in SG) for this test, so there might be some latency issues in certain regions — but with these playtest, we will be gathering some in-game / external data on our end as well to make some improvement in upcoming playtests until launch.
123papa#3141 asked “When will the next test event take place, will it be more extensive?”
Joseph: We are planning another round of GSU playtest in 2Q, and for sure, there will be more features for our community to experience. And also, upcoming test will be having more bigger volume in both game / tech side, so will be constantly expanding the volume of the tester in each upcoming rounds.
Wrath#58931 asked “What steps have you taken to balance cooperative and competitive gameplay in GSU, and how do you ensure that players have fun and engaging experiences whether they choose to work together or compete against each other? Can you give us some examples of how the game mechanics and quests support both types of play? 2. And if dupe would be possible what yours plan to do with duped items?”
Joseph: In simple ways, you can imagine how does the current MMORPGs work — such as WoW, or other MMORPGs in gaming scene. As you’ve mentioned having some balance between cooperative and competitive gameplay is a important point of a game operation. So basically we will be encouraging our players to do some co-ops when they’re growing their characters. But also, there will be some competitive contents for players / guilds compete against each other for bragging rights and the spoils of war — something like GvG or RvR. These in-game systems and upcoming contents will be keep sharing inside our community or social channels.
And for the items, these will be the base layer on our game economy, so we are setting up some guidelines and ways to protect the in-game economy when these actually harm entire game system. Therefore, we are having various approaches on this.
Quantum_gun#8271 asked “Hello. Will there be a hold/capture system for fortified areas-castles like in Lineage2?
Joseph: We are currently building more ideas in detail to provide as an end content. Since we encourage our players to form community inside a game as party, guild, and so on to experience more fun on our co-op contents. So there may be some GvGs or RvRs inside our game. We will be delivering more details regarding GSU gameplay into our medium channel soon.
Heteronimo#6671 asked “Are there gonna be gacha draws for weapons or characters in the game?”
Joseph: Gacha system might be used, or might not be used — but it depends on our gaming architecture. But basically, as mentioned on the previous question, key items will be delivered from the gameplay, obtainable by players’ effort — such as time or some money.
Will be delivering more on upcoming tests, but key business model will be different compared to the original GS.
Kurama#4387 asked “What is your main target market for this GSU game release?? Only for someone who likes crypto-based games (P2E), adventure-based game lovers or for everyone who loves to play games even without knowledge of cryptocurrencies?”
Joseph: Actually the main target for GSU is Gamers, who love to play MMORPGs. This target group includes crypto-native users, and gamers who doesn’t have any previous experience in web3 as well.
To actually achieve these, we are focusing on these 3 things. 1) Providing quality games 2) Bringing seamless user experience 3) Using blockchain tech layer to enhance gaming experience.
And I believe every projects are working to bring quality games in web3 spaces, but ways of using blockchain tech may be different among each projects.
On the service layer perspective, there should be some centralized aspects to provide easy user experience, so we are forming some ways to enhance the wallet experience, and how does the current frictions like gas fees can be subsidized in METAPIXEL platform.
And also, we are thinking of using on-chain layer to deliver more information inside the game world — such as game explorer, so that users may get some implications here to do create some analytics, or see how the game world is currently being operated.
Thus, we are moving forward to web3 with these perspectives, and achieve our goal to bring actual masses into web3 using our games.
Dejabrew#2420 asked “Will there be in-game purchases and how will they affect gameplay? And will there be a chance of falling out certain enhancements (if any) or a guaranteed for the purchase?”
Joseph: Thanks, I personally think that the shift between web2 to web3 will not happen instantly.
So there may be some middleground to deliver some easy web2-based way for gamer adoption, and also providing some good aspects from web3 in various ways to enhance gaming experience.
Products that affect the power balance in the game will be very limited, and most of the ability-based items are aimed at enabling acquisition through gameplay. Of course, there are items that require a lot of time to be obtained in the play process, and there are items with only a limited number issued in the game. To achieve this, game players can efficiently save time by purchasing or trading other items if needed. But still, there will be some updates on which in-game purchases will be available during our development progress, but we will be keep delivering the information through our media channels.
CryproWild#5068 asked “Are you going to prepare some videos that explains “proof of play” concept from your article?”
Joseph: The initial announcement of Proof-of-play was basically more of a theoretical/concept reveal. So we are definitely planning to share more content related to this and explain it more to players as it develops, starting from delivering article in early April. But most interesting part will be something like, how these concept can actually translate inside a game as a real use case. So there may be some following contents regarding this on our journey.
<blank/>#2864 asked “I’m pretty curious about the formula on Proof-of-Play, it’s pretty good tbh but can we as DAO change the formula if it fail or abusive like there is an exploit about it?”
Joseph: Proof-of-play is basically a method / algorithm that we are using to deliver more transparent information regarding the game. And the DAO concept — which we delivered as part of the System Agent concept previously is more likely to have some delegation in operation with our actual gamers. But it’s not like giving out everyting able to controlled freely, so there will be some steps to give out these delegation to our gamers. Starting from few gaming systems, there may be some possiblities to open up more, but basically we need to make sure that this game is being operated properly as a developer, so we will be taking care of the fundamentals, but share more information transparently using PoP logics, and make our core players participate on some decisions constantly inside the game. We won’t let our game easily spoiled ;)
Jon Snob🐺#7352 asked “How can a regular user help a project at an early stage? and will there be an opportunity for active users to contribute to the project?”
Joseph: I don’t really get this exactly, what was the basic intention, so my answer will be bit rough.
For the early stage help that we wish to our community members is to be active, and create some contents to spread into gamer’s community so that we could get more gamer’s reach. So basically that’s the reason why we are currently operating our crew3 system to get these support and share some advantage to our supporters.
So we are thinking of many ways to actually get more engagements from our community — and spread to others to get more interest in our game, but we are not doing some discord invite countings intentionally — since these actions might be working as a way to farm some points.
We will also be delivering more ways to ask our community’s help — thanks for all your participation, and looking forward to more ;)
Hoa⭕🐱.bnb#9914 asked “Thanks if you chose my question. I want to know about the NFT marketplace. you will have your own nft market or share it with other markets on aptos like topaz, bluemove…. ?”
Joseph: We are working on both ways. For the bringing all the liquidity inside the ecosystem, connecting / allowing the current ecosystem partners will be better for the user experience since they will be having more chances to seek the item / NFT they want to get inside Aptos ecosystem. But, in the other hand, there may be some unique aspects that our platform is actually providing as a gaming narrative, so we will be containing our own to deliver these things inside METAPIXEL platform — and maybe connect inside our game as well. But basically, we are not really blocking everyone and forcing them to just use our system.
nuwel99#6963 asked “The OAT was in Aptos, does that mean that the full game will also launch on Aptos? if yes then why Aptos? being it a new chain that is not yet known for web3 games. Also in the future are you guys planning on being a multichain game?”
Joseph: Yes, as everybody knows, we are building our game on Aptos — as a strategic ecosystem partner of Aptos.
But the answer for ‘Why Aptos?’ is pretty simple. METAPIXEL and Aptos both had same goal, to bring mass adoption on web3. So they were keep providing technical layers to ease the use of blockchain technology, and we are building together to actually set some gaming standards on Aptos network.
Low latency to support fast execution for gaming experience is one, and techincal safeguards and high fidelity of move contract is another. And now we both are focusing ‘how to bring more users on web3, using the gaming narratives what we could deliver together’.
And for the multi-chain thing, I think there should be more improvements to go for this. We currently don’t have any plans to seek for another chain, because we think that we should be eliminating the current frictions in web3 to bring the masses here through Aptos.
Kethali #3401 asked “A portion of projects must discuss long-term vision and mission, but what are your short-term goals? What are you currently focusing on? I am also interested in your business model. What do you make money on in Metapixiel ecosystem? Is it a commission from transactions within the game, the release of NFTs and royalties from them? Since I touched the subject of NFT, one more question. What is the ultimate goal of your project in the NFT market?”
Joseph: Our short-term goal is to definitely deliver our games to the gamer in good quality, and our actual goal of METAPIXEL is to bring the masses into web3 using our games / ecosystem that we build. So that’s the reason why we are not in a rush to deliver some NFT sales, or Tokens in front of our game — and the posted contents are keep delivered under this tone.
As Lucas mentioned on our previous medium article, our team believes that web3 and blockchain tech can be used in great ways to create new paradigm in game design and providing the trustable data of the game itself.
But anyway, as asked, game company needs to generate profit to keep their game more sustainable — so we will be setting up some business model inside GSU and METAPIXEL projects. For example, there would be some royalties for the created NFT inside the game, since majority of the items will be obtained as NFT features during the gameplay (i.e. resource items, or gaming gears, etc) And there would also be some direct sales to make the gameplay easier, such as monthly passes — but we will be delivering more soon.
MasaMoon#8231 asked “MMORPGs often collaborate with popular anime, games, etc. With Web3 games, these types of collaborations seem to be more difficult. If this becomes possible, it will be a true bridge between Web2 and Web3.”
Joseph: I think there would be some possiblities to make some collaboration with different IPs. As mentioned, our goal is to bring masses into web3, so will be trying our best to bring many possible ways to make this happen. We are having some discussions among other projects, and we also have some previous experience in making some collaborations with other related IPs on web2 as well, so will be figuring out and share to our community when it becomes more concrete.
Free Q&A
Professor_BLR#4186 asked “Will it be possible to use a gamepad in the game?”
Joseph: Yeah for the game pad like currently like we haven’t really think about like like doing something like official support on the game pad because the CSU is basically designed as a pc game using the mouse and keyboard, but anything can happen when there are like a bunch of requests.
So that’s the reason why we are trying to see get something from the other from the upcoming test as well.
So uh currently like the basic gameplay will be like formed with performance using the mouse and keyboard.
But if there are a bunch of requests and if there are some like major like stats that we can see the number of the gamers who are actually using the game pad you might be thinking of like you, we might be thinking of supporting it.
Pearlvn#0699 asked “Will GSU be on mobile?”
Joseph: No, because thedevelopment of the game is currently focused on a full MMORPG using the PC platform.
So if we imagine providing these kinds of features to the mobile version, the entire game play experience might be really different and hard to do compared to PC.
So that’s the reason why we’re currently focusing on the PC version for now. I cannot really say that like the entire game lineup will be PC exclusive. Because we are preparing a bunch of games such as Pixelcraft and so on. So there might be some other related games coming out into the mobile as well.
bruhhh#0917 asked “Will metapixel or GSU have pfp collection?”
Joseph: Yeah, it was announced before that METAPIXEL would be having a PFP collection in Catcha which is coming this year. So we are thinking of basically something like a brand for gamers. We are preparing some of the details to deliver our community as well.
So this will be the METAPIXEL PFP collection that we issue out to the community. But as mentioned before, we are not really limiting our gamers to have this kind of a collection to start playing games.
So basically the games that we provide will be pretty much like free to play and the PFP collection will be having different purpose and some like benefits for our community.
trungbepx#8638 asked “Is it possible to talk about some of the competitive/PvP aspects?”
Joseph: There will be some content for people interested in this like individual PVP or guild content (the first test will not feature PvP game modes).
So this kind of competitive contents will be delivered in various ways to have some like competitions among those gamers to be who is the actual strongest and who will be the most powerful guilds but still like we are not really forcing everyone to participate in this contents in a competitive way, because like there might be some advantage in having some balance between competitive content and co-op content.
Pearlvn#0699 asked “Will you be holding tournaments?”
Joseph: Yeah, in general if we have some decent number inside the community and the gamer/guild demand is there, then we will be looking at having some tournaments or even some Pixelcraft tournaments in the future too.
So I think this may be really open to have some interesting tournament content in the future.
minhanh1309a#1965 asked “Does the rarity of the items correlate with the power of the items in the game?”
Joseph: It might and it might not because when we think about some items like costumes for example, the scarcity of the costume might be defining aesthetics rather than power, such as cosmetics, but when we think about the gaming gear, a lot of the unique items will be more powerful compared to the other items. So there will be these kind of things provided in various ways.
So I think in actual reality, not all items will be completely fixed in terms of rarity to power but it will depend.
Henry#3516 asked “When will the game story be revealed?”
Joseph: I think for the basic concept and basic storyline players will be able to share the game related story and content from our community tests, compared to the original Gran Saga a lot of the basic world and story elements are shared but there will be quite a lot of differences in overall narrative and direction.
So we are trying to deliver various ways to learn about the storylines, but since it’s an MMORPG we are not really limiting our players to only have one way of experiencing everything, so there might be some different ways of playing and seeing the game world individually that players should experience for themselves.
So that’s the reason why we are trying to deliver overall information right now about how the game will look and what will be the design of the game and so on.
So there might be some upcoming articles related to the overall game narratives as well.
MasaMoon#8231 asked “What specific measures can be taken to provide seamless play other than the proxy gas feed payment?”
Joseph: Yeah I think the proxy gas fee payment is one but still even if they doesn’t really have to sign pay the gas be there might be some frictions when they have to like click and accept all the transaction requests.
So we might also bethinking about the seamless safety mechanism when we do some delegations inside the game in terms of the transactions.
And also we are trying to remove issues and introduce abstraction and improvement methods on the wallet side because basically there are some stereotypes or pre-conceptions that make it difficult for users to use wallets, as well as NFTs and marketplaces as well. And the reason why we’re also thinking about the marketplace side is to build one internally but not limiting our users to use just ours.
Because when we think about use cases, for example, players might try to buy like 500 pieces of ore to craft a sword. Then the user might be having a hard time to find all the 500 iron ore items in one marketplace and try to buy everything.
So there might be some improvements when we implement these kinds of NFT trading in terms of the resource trading, for example, and the way NFT market liquidity works but I feel like overall we are trying to limit to reduce some of the technical frictions and translate it into something more fitting with a game narrative for players e.g. using in-game tickets as proxy for gas is easy enough to understand for regular gamers.
So I think there will be some various ways to allow seamless gameplay.
So we will keep delivering our theoretical concepts and some of the use cases of what we’re actually thinking on using inside GSU as well.
Pearlvn#0699 asked “Besides English, what languages are you going to plan to add to GSU and what is the criteria for selecting?”
Joseph: The main reason why chose English for the first language is to have the most coverage to go global.
And the reason why we are conducting several batches of testing is to check how many people from each community are actually interested in our game and how much playtime there are actually contributing.
So to pick additional languages the first criteria that we are looking for is to see how many actual users that we might be having from each language.
So we will be measuring these kind of criteria by conducting several batches of the play test and and see our community growth then we might be setting up priority order to provide some language packs inside GSU.
But we are trying to like put as many as languages as we can.
Spaceman#6766 asks “Do you have any plans to have any competitions for the early access participants during the play test stuff? Like most quests on, fastest to level up etc.?”
Joseph: Basically we’re not really limiting ourselves to these kind of competitive quests too much for the first batch of the testing because we understand that out of 18k members inside our community we can only accept 500 members for this round of testing.
So for this round of the play test, we are focusing more on other types of events and providing in game information and making some creation events to provide content and information to the non-testers as well inside our community.
So in future rounds when the tester pool grows then we might be thinking about some more competitive quests, for example, when we have a round with 10,000 testers then we might be making contests for these users to have some kind of competition inside the game and other competitive in-game events and maybe distribute some rewards this way.
But this round of the testing will not really be operated in that way.
e99243506bigplay__#9805 asked “With regard to Proof of Play, how do we balance the amount of players with the supply of items, especially if players decide to grind the game on a mass scale?”
Joseph: Yeah, actually since this kind of game is a web3 MMORPG, the basic economy in the game will be pretty much related to the actual NFT items created inside the game through gameplay.
There might be some people who are really really grinding hard to get some of the items during the gameplay. But I agree with the point that we need to figure it out to get some balancing between of the total number of the NFTs and players. And some some some really important things and valuable things that might be considered especially hard.
We will consider ways to have balance between the different game servers too.
So it’s quite a tough question but I think we are currently setting up some guidelines and ways to protect the game economy.
And we might be having some strict rules about this when we are trying to loop in people as system agents as well, so we will be having this kind of discussion as well inside our community.
So yes we are having various approaches on this
Nickost#1998 asks “Will there be a stamina, energy system like in typical mobile games or will this be just a straight up MMORPG?”
Joseph: MMORPG style, but in some instances it really depends, there might be some limitations on some gameplay like certain dungeons which provide really unique items or really essential items, like in other MMORPGs. But we are not really forcing our users to play a certain amount of time per day. So a lot of the gameplay, especially the core gameplay, will be open but there will be some limitations on certain special content but we are currently figuring that out.
AxelRay.apt#0001 asks “Will the game be pay to win?”
Joseph: I think there will be some factors to fully answer this, since paying users can get some benefits when they spend and buy some items, especially on the open marketplace with free trade.
But we’re not really thinking about selling too much ourselves directly, so it won’t be pay-to-win in that aspect.
However, because we are not really limiting our players on the open marketplace, there will be an open economy for players to buy from and naturally gain advantages (we might look at other ways to balance this fact), but it’s in the player-driven economy, derived from actual gameplay and based on the supply and demand of players.
Conclusion
Suh: Thank you all for attending the AMA and asking some great questions, we hope you learned a lot more about GSU and the upcoming test. The attendance password for AMA#2 on Crew3 is ‘500’. I’ll let Joseph do the outro. Thank you and bye!
Joseph: Thank you for like taking your time to participate in our aim a today. So as always it was really exciting to see what our community is interested in and we also definitely want to hear and answer these questions throughout our journey. And as you know this information will be also delivered through our medium article as a recap. What I can say is our top priority is informing the METAPIXEL community. Recently we have been conducting some external AMAs and Twitter spaces with other projects in our ecosystem as well to spread information about our project.
And this information will be also delivered to our community as well, and our team isvery excited to see our players experiencing GSU during the upcoming play test and there will be a lot of events going on for bothtesters and non testers for sure.
And you’re finding and setting some ways to deliver more information regarding our game.
We haven’t forgotten about the members who are not really able to have a chance to test our game in the first community test. So we will be setting up some more exciting events to increase the tester numbers gradually and give more people a chance to test the game in future. So please stick to our community and have some fun here.
Thank you.
